Building EHCPs

What is an EHCP?

An EHCP plan is a legal document that describes a child's special educational, health and social care needs.

Who is an EHCP for?

An EHCP is required when a child’s needs cannot be met by the usual support that is available to them in their school or setting so therefore require an EHC assessment by the Local Authority.

EHCP Pathway

Building an ECHP requires an extensive understanding of the child's needs and how that impacts their learning and school experience. A deep knowledge of the education services and systems at Local Authority level is essential too.   Although every EHCP application is unique, certain key steps are required for it to be successful .

Fees

For each EHCP application a guide on the hours required to build the necessary evidence and report writing will be given. The charge per hour of work is £75, although a package of support can be tailored.

1

Assessment

The SEND Code of Practice describes how SEN support should arise from a four-part cycle, Assess, Plan, Do, Review (APDR), known as the graduated approach. Working with parents and schools is vital to ensure a robust, sustained APDR cycle is in place.

2

Evidence

A careful review of a child's needs and additional support is required from families, school and external agencies. Assessments of the child and the follow up reports will be carefully examined to ensure they carry the evidence required by the borough for a successful application.

3

Application

An EHCP application requires all the evidence to be collated into one Local Authority specific application. Inadequate evidence and the quality of assessment will impact the quality of the assessment and can cause unnecessary delays
